The .com extension is more than just a sequence of characters; it is the digital cornerstone of the modern economy. Originally intended for a small group of government contractors and researchers, it has evolved into a global symbol for business. Here is the story of how the most famous three letters in technology came to be. 1. The Pre-DNS Era (The Phonebook Phase) Before the Domain Name System (DNS) existed, the internet (then known as ARPANET) was a small neighborhood.
